Politically Overwhelmed, A Swedish blogger, Nina Turner in Portland & More!

Stop the World I Want to Get Off!

This week I’ve been identifying with the ‘60’s musical, “Stop the World I Want to Get Off,” rattled by the news of the blazing fires in the Amazon to reports that the world has experienced the hottest summer ever to the rolling out of Trump’s increasingly meaner migrant policies, like keeping kids detained indefinitely!  I’m trying to do my part by working with my progressive church on ways to support migrant families in detention.  Change moves too slowly and we don’t have much time to turn things around, nor can we afford to look away.

Yours truly in news overload!

Interviewed by a Swedish blogger

This week blogger Katharina Wallenborg from Sweden posted an interview she did with me about aging:  https://www.womensportraitsfiftyplus.com/l/ageism-and-sexism/  I find it very exciting that older women are connecting globally, sharing their experiences and supporting one another.

Nina Turner in Portland

Thursday I joined the Bernie crowd in downtown Portland to hear the very dynamic Ohio Senator Nina Turner rustle up support for Bernie.  I’m impressed by his bold visionary campaign, which just unveiled a comprehensive Green New Deal that goes beyond the one introduced by Representative AOC and Senator Ed Markey.  Simultaneously the DNC (Democratic National Committee) has refused requests for a climate debate among the candidates with the explanation that they are opposed to “a single issue” debate. As if this weren’t the most important single issue facing us!

Grandson Max

My youngest grandchild, Max will be 14 this Saturday.  He’s a very sweet young man with a strong sense of compassion.  I hope and pray he finds a worthwhile outlet for his caring. His mother thinks he would make a good teacher.

The Weekend Ahead

As summer winds down my weekends at my little country retreat are numbered.  I will treasure my time there this weekend and plunge into some reading for my course, “Women and Aging,” that starts September 18that the University of Maine’s senior college.  I will end my days sharing dinners with close friends nearby.
