Having just returned from a family vacation in London, I’m dedicating this week’s “Short Takes” to a photo journey of our trip.
Granddaughter Jane
Our holiday was generated by my granddaughter’s Girl Scout troop’s visit. Her family, myself and my youngest son crammed in the usual tourist sites: the Tate Modern, The Tower of London, Regents Park, fish and chips, and lots more. This is an arty photo of Jane in front of graffiti in the Brick Lane neighborhood.
Both Grandkids
Another Brick Lane photo posed in front of graffiti. I instructed my subjects to look moody, which Max didn’t need help with. I think he was hungry or just wanting to be somewhere else.
Our Garden Flat
We rented a charming flat on the edge of Hampstead, which used to be London’s Greenwich Village and is now gentrified, but its winding streets and neighborhood pubs still have plenty of allure. Here I am in the flat’s garden.
The Whole Crew in Regents Park
We walked and walked, which is what one does in London because it’s so spread out. Whenever we came to a park we were all smiles. This photo was taken in the Queen’s Rose Garden. Youngest son, Jonathan is photo-bombing, which he’s been doing in family pictures since he was six!
Kindness
While the Brits have their own immigration issues to deal with, I fund multiple examples of kindness, like the woman who offered me a lift when I asked for directions, or signs like these in libraries and community centers.
Monster Macaroons
These macaroons were the biggest I have ever seen and beautiful in their soft pastels.
An Ode to Maine
I couldn’t resist taking a picture of this whimsical piece from the Tate Modern. The lobster may or may not be from Maine and I have no idea why it’s on top of the phone: a warning of some sort?
