Alabama’s Draconian Abortion Law
I’m old enough to remember when abortion was illegal and when college friends traveled out of state for an abortion. In 1973 when abortions became legal, we all breathed a sigh of relief. Now decades later anti-abortion fever is in ascendency. This week Alabama’s governor, Kay Ivey signed the cruelest imaginable abortion law, making all abortions, even in the case of rape, a crime. Doctors who perform abortions can face a life sentence or even death. Ivey is a colossal traitor to her gender!
Beating Susan Collins
Speaking of traitors to their gender, Collins has earned a spot with her deciding vote that made Brett Kavanaugh a Supreme Court justice. He’s poised to strike down Roe v. Wade when it’s challenged in the Supreme Court. Maine women need to find a challenger to Collins soon! Passion, intelligence and courage can compensate for years in office. Remember AOC was a bartender before she was elected. Her passion, smarts and fearlessness made it possible for her to defeat a powerful incumbent. Let’s do the same in Maine and show Collins the exit door!
A Beloved Cousin Dies
As I age the circle of close friends and family gets narrower and narrower. This week I learned that my cousin, Barbara Lee had died from cancer. She lived in Colorado, making it difficult for us to have much contact in our adult years. I have fond memories of spending time with Barbara Lee at a great aunt’s summerhouse on the Jersey shore and in Pennsylvania where we both lived. Barbara was a year older than me. Here’s a photo of the two of us taken when she was four and I was three.
Stop the Rain in Maine!
Mainers, myself included, are spitting nickels over our prolonged cold spring, which has delivered buckets of rain and very little sun. I keep running into friends who are threatening to move to warmer climes. With our luck in few weeks we’ll see record heat like what climate change delivered last year. Time to get on the Climate Extinction bandwagon. The climate is in dire need of TLC!
