Texas Abortion Law
Like most women across America, I have been stunned by the new Texas abortion law, which the Supremes upheld. This horrible piece of legislation makes an abortion illegal after 6 weeks– most women don’t even know they’re pregnant this early! It gets worse: any Texan who knows of a woman seeking an abortion or of medical staff or others assisting in an abortion can report them and receive $10,000 as a reward. Even an Uber driver taking a woman to an abortion clinic would be considered guilty. Citizen vigilantes like these are reminiscent of Stassi Germany. Time for a mass movement to protest!!
Culture Wars
This week I found myself caught up in the culture wars. My local paper, The Portland Press Herald, printed my letter to the editor where I suggested listening circles comprised of anti and pro-vaxers, where the objective is to listen respectfully to one another towards healing our divide. Of the 7 responses, only one was sympathetic. The others were angry to the tune of, “Why in Hell would I want to listen to a anti-vaxer?” Will we ever bridge our differences?
A Hidden Treasure
Last weekend I had brunch with some friends in a quaint inn by the water in Spruce Head, Maine. As we were leaving we noted a farmhouse with a sign, “Antiques for Sale.” Curious, we parked and entered. The small store occupied the front of the house with the residence adjoining. When I peeked into it and saw beautiful Chinese wall paper and antique furnishings, I asked the owner for permission to look about. She obliged. My jaw dropped taking in her gorgeous antique collections and treasures from her 15 trips to India. A few photos are attached.
