A Little Help from My Friends
After blogging this week about my struggle to accommodate to my aging body’s inevitable decline with a focus on my newly visited sciatica, I received numerous helpful suggestions on the post’s comment section and on the WOW Facebook page. There was lots of supportive advice from others describing how they’ve adjusted to their aches and pains. One reader recommended a lumbar cushion, which I’ve ordered. Thanks to all for commiserating and offering helpful suggestions.
What to do About Senator Collins?
For us Mainers it looks more and more like dear Susan is poised to vote for Kavanaugh for the Supreme Court, which could mean the end of Roe vs. Wade. We don’t have to be helpless. We can mount a campaign to pressure her and to let her know her political future is at stake if she abandons the women of Maine and of the country. I fantasize about identifying a young progressive woman to take her on. It’s not an impossible feat when you consider that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a 28-year-old former bartender beat an incumbent by addressing everyday concerns, like supporting single payer health care.
Cottage Dreams
On a lighter note I feel very blessed to be able to afford a little cottage retreat, whose renovations are ever so slowly moving along. Here’s a photo of the cottage with its screen porch under construction. I dream of reading on the porch, sipping wine there with friends and temporarily screening out (pun intended) the world’s ugliness.
On My Weekend Radar
I plan to see the new film, Sorry to Bother You, a comedic take on white privilege. It’s gotten rave reviews and looks to be both entertaining and prodding. I also want to check out the new book, The Language of Kindness by Christie Watson, a nurse from the UK, reporting on her experience with kindness as a nurse. I’m taken by the title and the promise it offers for general guidelines on practicing kindness. I feel a blog post coming on . . . .
