Bad News Week
I hate to start my post sounding gloomy, but all I can think about at the moment are the epic fires in Australia which have generated the largest evacuations in the nation’s history, and a looming war with Iran, thanks to the Trump administration blatant assassination (without Congressional approval) of Iranian Gen. Suleimani. I’m gratified that peace groups and others have quickly mobilized to schedule nation-wide protests tomorrow, Jan. 4th.
Key West Vacation
Tomorrow morning I take off for a Key West vacation, which will prevent me from joining in the peace protests. Since Key West is progressive, I hope to find a group there that’s taking action against a war with Iran. Bad news aside, I look forward to balmy weather, walking everywhere, breakfasts at the Banana Café, and connecting with old friends.
Christmas Holidays
I had a lovely family Christmas in Chicago, visiting my oldest son and his family. They treated me to an English tea at the Drake Hotel. It was full of pomp and circumstance, but good fun. Even the teenage grand kids enjoyed it, especially when our waiter noticed how quickly they devoured the treats and returned with fresh plates “on the house.”
A Christmas Book
My vacation reading will include the book, “Disappearing Earth” by Julia Phillips, a gift from my brother. The plot revolves around the disappearance of two young girls from a city on the Far Eastern coast of Russia. It promises to be a page- turner, which might help induce sleep during these trying times.
A Few Family Snaps
I recently purchased the latest iPhone, which means my mediocre camera skills suddenly sky-rocketed. I no longer have to apologize for my pictures. Here are some favorite holiday images:
