Trying to Manage Dark Times
Periodically the dark times we’re experiencing get to me. I sink into despair. I have discovered that the most effective way to climb out of my political despair is to join others in protest actions. Today, I’ll be standing with a Portland noon contingent in front of the US Attorney’s office to protest separating young immigrant children from their parents. Then this evening, as part of “First Friday,” I’ll join a silent tableau dramatizing the plight of people in Gaza where hundreds of non-violent protesters have been killed by Israeli forces. Challenging times indeed!
My Granddaughter’s 8th Grade Graduation
On a happier note my 14 y.o. granddaughter, Jane graduated from Middle School this week. Her new purple hair stands out against her red graduation robe. Jane has already declared she wants to attend art school. Her hair will fit right in!
Lovely Weather
Summer is creeping into Maine treating us to warm, sunny days. I have yet to get to the beach but it’s calling me. Beach therapy is just what I need. Maybe Sunday I’ll retrieve my beach chair and make my way to a restorative patch of sand and sea.
A Handmaid’s Tale Update
I won’t be a spoiler by giving away the latest episode of “A Handmaid’s Tale,” other than to comment I find it riveting and brilliant. In my opinion Elizabeth Moss may be the best actress of her generation.
Documentary on Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Saturday I will attend a local screening of “RBG,” the documentary about this remarkable woman. I’m particularly fond of her answer to the reporter’s question, “When will there be enough women on the Supreme Court?” Ginsburg: “When there are nine.”
