The Death of a Remarkable Woman
This past week Connie Chandler Ward, 82, of Tenants Harbor died in a car crash. Her sudden death has jolted her community that reaches across the country. Connie had been the chaplain at Wellesley College before leaving there to become one of the three founders of Greenfire, a women’s spiritual retreat center, which existed from 1996 to 2007 in Tenants Harbor. I knew Connie when I became affiliated with Greenfire in 2004. She had a profound influence on my spiritual development, asking probing questions while being open to the mystery of life. I am immensely grateful for my conversations with Connie and for her gentle guidance.

Go Oklahoma Teachers!
It’s heartening to see another group of teachers strike not just for higher wages, but as the Oklahoma teachers say, “for the kids.” It’s incredible to read about Oklahoma schools, which don’t have enough textbooks for each student and sometimes not enough desks– the list of missing essentials goes on and on. The striking teachers are now on a weeklong march from Tulsa to the capital of Oklahoma City where they will put pressure on lawmakers to raise school budgets across the state.
The community support for Oklahoma’s striking teachers is heart-warming.
A Wonderful Netflix Film
This week I blogged about some of my favorite videos. Now I want to add to that list the charming Canadian film, Meditation Park about an elderly woman from Hong Kong who has always put husband and family first, but when she makes an unhappy discovery she begins to assert herself and make life changes. A happy surprise in this film was seeing Sandra Oh of Grey’s Anatomy fame who plays the daughter.

In my role as a roving photographer I took this photo last weekend at Trader Joe’s. This stylish woman was visiting from New York City. I love her accessories, especially her leopard print glasses.
Tax Time
Every year I procrastinate with my taxes. This year I decided to get a head start. I actually began collecting all the necessary paper work a month ago, but stopped there. Now that the deadline looms, this weekend will be my tax time!
