Sickening Hearings
Watching the Republicans try to railroad Kavanaugh through the Senate hearings on his qualifications to be a Supreme, where almost unbearable. What’s really outrageous is the way Maine’s Senator Collins is defending him against recent evidence he purged himself more than once. Mainers, keep up the pressure and keep phoning her, insisting she vote against Kavanaugh! Several ads featuring women are insisting that they will work for Collins’ opponent in her next election if she votes for Kavanaugh.
Serena Wins!
On a lighter note my heart soared to see Serena Williams win last night making her eligible for the U.S Open Tennis finals on Saturday! Some of her serves were over 100 miles an hour! Go Serena!
Fall is in the Air
What a pleasure to wake up this morning to full sun, low humidity and cooler temps. I walked past an elementary school whose pumpkin path now has fully mature pumpkins. I’m ready for sweater weather and for the lift my brain feels with brisk weather.
An Intriguing Film
This weekend I hope to attend a showing of the documentary film, I Am Not A Witch. It’s about an eight-year-old girl who turns up alone and unannounced in a rural Zambian village, arousing the suspicions of the locals. She is tried as a witch, found guilty and sentenced to life on a state-run witch camp. What a story!
Finding Hope
In these dark times, I like to re-read inspirational thinkers and poets like Mary Oliver. Here’s a quote of hers that reminds us light is often hidden in the darkness; if we can ride it out and work for peace and justice, the darkness will recede. One way this is being expressed is in the record number of women winning primaries.
