Impeachment Hearing’s Stars

Hats off to Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch and Dr. Fiona Hill.  Both women testified this week in the impeachment hearings.  They were professional, calm and collected, speaking in respectful tones as they described Trump’s corrupt, mishandling of US- Ukraine polices. Trump was true to form as he tweeted lies about Yovanovitch while she was testifying! Why aren’t Americans taking to the streets to protest Trump’s long list of corrupt acts of which trying to bribe Ukraine is but one example?  Maybe we need to bring over a few Hong Kong students to show us how it’s done . . . .

Rethinking Holiday Gifts

I’ve had it with the excessive merchandising of holiday gifts.  I’d love to stop all family gifts, but realize I have to inch my way towards this, so this year I’m proposing the 4 Gift Rule, which was designed for kids, but I plan to implement it for the adults in my family as well. The recommended gifts are: one thing they want, one thing they need, one thing to wear and one thing to read.

The Movie, Gift

Speaking of gifts this weekend I plan to watch the film, Gift, which will be shown at the Portland Art Museum.  All I know about the film is that it takes a new look at gifts, which I hope refers to non-material gifts, like showing kindness.

ICE Protest in Portland this Sunday, Nov. 24th.

If you want to lend your voice to protesting ICE’s illegal arresting of migrants, come to Portland’s Concord Station at 12:30 this Sunday. The goal is to stop ICE and the Border Patrol from boarding Concord Coach lines without a warrant, searching for illegal migrants, who once arrested are imprisoned or deported. Despite outcry from the ACLU over the infringement of the rights of passengers, Concord has continued to side with ICE!  A friend calls ICE America’s ‘brown shirts.”

Thanksgiving Approaches

On a lighter note it’s that time of year when we cook for two days and overeat, followed by a nap from carb overload. I will be hosting my family. Now that I have two teenage grands I plan to enlist them in the preparation.  This will increase my fun and get them off their horrid phones! I plan to have Jane and Max make place cards for everyone, where tucked inside will be a gratitude list of what they admire about the family member.  I hope they take this seriously and don’t add smartass comments, but you never know with teens . . .
