Gun Control March, “Roseanne,” London-Bound, Spring Signs

Last Weekend’s March for Gun Control

I’m still reverberating from last Saturday’s March for Gun Control, still taking in the inspiring and impressive turnout of teens and their riveting speeches.  I find myself looking at teenagers with a new respect.  They need and deserve our full support.  Here’s a photo from Portland’s march of three spirited older women who assured me they will do all they can to support the teen activists.

Roseanne, the TV Show, Returns

I was a big fan of Roseanne in its first incarnation. I loved the way it challenged corporate America and supported working-class families, but now that Roseanne Barr, a Trump supporter, infuses her new show with support for him, I don’t think I can continue to watch it.  Roxane Gay writes about a similar reaction to seeing the new Roseanne.

London Bound in June

I’m very excited about visiting London in a few months.  I’ll roundez-vous with my oldest son and his family who will be in London to accompany granddaughter, Jane’s Girl Scout troop’s trip to London.  I lived in London with my family for a year in the early ‘80’s and have only been back once decades ago. While many British pubs have closed I was delighted to learn that my favorite pub, the Holly Bush is still open.  I can’t wait to revisit it.

Trying to Find a Balance

As the political news from Washington becomes an almost daily nightmare: Bolton, the frightening war monger, is now Trump’s National Security Advisor; plans to privatize the Veteran’s administration are in full swing; and the raping of the US soil moves ahead at lightening speed. What to do?  I try to monitor my news intake while finding areas of hope, like with the Parkland youth.  It’s a difficult balance to achieve, but I want to stay engaged and do all I can to raise my own voice in protest.

Spring is Making a Long-Awaited Appearance in New England.

Most of the snow has melted in Portland; brave souls are going about with no jackets or thin ones; I see more smiles on passer-byes; fresh tulips are for sale at my local market.  Before too long crocuses will sprout.  Spring can’t come soon enough!
