Back in Florida
About ten days ago I returned to Florida, this time to Lake Worth, a sleepy community near Palm Beach. Lake Worth has an unhurried vibe with a sweeping beach, a funky movie house and lots of outdoor eateries. My oldest son visited for a few days when we visited the nearby Morikami Gardens, six gardens, built around a lake, which replicate famous Japanese gardens. We were calmed by the beauty and serenity of the gardens. Below are two images from our excursion.
Granddaughter Jane
This week my granddaughter, Jane turned 16. She’s consumed with drawing and making her own clothes and jewelry. Jane will attend the Chicago Art Institute’s summer program for high school students. She wears oversized vintage clothes in bold colors that scream “art student.” Here’s a photo of Jane wearing my birthday gift to her of a vintage sweater.
Democratic Debates
I missed this week’s debates but saw re-runs of the highlights. I loved Elizabeth Warren for taking on Bloomberg’s record of sexist comments and behavior. We need all the feisty women we can get who will speak truth to power!
Norton Museum of Art
During my son’s Florida visit we spent a day at the Norton Art Museum in West Palm Beach. It is very well endowed, making it possible to have one of the best collections of modern art in the country. We schlepped about the museum in our somewhat ratty vacation wardrobe, which was a notable contrast to the Palm Beach matrons dripping in expensive jewelry and the latest haircuts and designer clothes. Thankfully a love of art rises above class differences.
