Cynthia Nixon’s Admirable Campaign
While I’m not a New Yorker I gave money to Cynthia Nixon’s campaign, admiring her bold progressive platform, challenging Cuomo’s corrupt administration. While she lost, her campaign offers hope for progressive woman running for office. Courtesy of Wall Street donors Cuomo raised $25 million for his campaign. Cynthia, refusing corporate donations, raised all of her $2 million campaign money from everyday folks.
French Chocolates Arrive in My Neighborhood!
Right around the corner from my Portland town house Chocolats Passion, a charming chocolate boutique opened this week. It’s operated by Catherine Wierserra, a lovely French woman, newly transplanted from Boston. I sampled a delicious passion fruit chocolate, which had the unmistakable, not too sweet sensation of quality bon bons. Ah, a little Paris in Portland!
Occupying My Country Cottage
Last weekend I finally moved into my country retreat. The small renovations took an eternity, but now that’s it’s finished, it feels perfect. My first night there two close friends from nearby arrived with pink champagne and gourmet treats to welcome me. A wonderful surprise!
Supporting Vets for Peace
This weekend the Maine chapter of Veterans for Peace is sponsoring a traveling photographic exhibit to commemorate the 50thanniversary of the My Lai massacre, paying homage to the innocent Vietnamese killed by American troops at My Lai. I’m hosting one of the out-of-state Vets. I look forward to tonight’s opening of the exhibit, including a poetry reading. Peggy Akers, a Vietnam Army nurse, whom I blogged about recently, will read one of her poems.
The End of Summer
Sunflowers and Maine fall strawberries occupy my kitchen as lingering signs of summer. For some reason the fall berries always taste better than the early summer crop. Maybe it’s because I savor their every bite, holding onto summer as I top my cereal or yogurt with these heavenly morsels.
HAPPY WEEKEND TO ALL!
