Joe Biden Strikes Out

This week Joe Biden threw his hat in the 2020 presidential ring. As part of his effort to erase his troubled past he phoned Anita Hill to apologize for his unfair treatment of her during the Clarence Thomas sexual harassment hearings, which Biden chaired. Hill wasn’t having any of Biden’s half-apology, commenting that she was “deeply unsatisfied” with Biden’s outreach to her.  Way to go Anita!

Shameful US Behavior at the UN

I was spitting nickels this morning as I watched “Democracy Now’s” coverage of the UN General Assembly meeting yesterday where the US refused to sign the resolution condemning violence against women unless the clause guaranteeing reproductive rights for women was eliminated!  This watered-down version passed forcing young girls who are raped and impregnated by terrorist groups to carry their babies to term.  Pompeo is smirking while the rest of the world is horrified and in disbelief at the cruel stance of the US.

Killing Eve on TV

Gripping TV series, like “Killing Eve” helps to distract me from the mean-spirited policies of the Orange Monster.  The two leads, Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer play a policewoman and psychopathic killer who are mutually obsessed with the other. Brilliant acting and thrills a minute ensure great TV drama.  Some of the plots seem improbable but I let myself suspend belief.

Family Fun

In spite of our familial ups and downs a playful spirit never seems to leave my family.  Here’s a photo taken Easter Sunday of my oldest son, David and his kids, my grandkids, Jane, 15 and Max 13.  Jane looks a little putout, but after all she’s 15!

Aretha Franklin Film

Tonight I’ll stuff some Kleenexes in my purse and make my way to the Portland Art Museum to see the film, “Amazing Grace,” featuring the live recording of Aretha Franklin’s album, “Amazing Grace,” at The New Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Watt, Los Angeles, January, 1972.  I’m prepared to be blown away.
