“I won’t back down,” Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur on the occupied Palestine territories, after being sanctioned by Rubio’s State Department. Albanese’s sanctions were triggered by taking positions at [...]

Key West Lucky me, I’m still enjoying my Key West break from Maine’s crappy winter punctuated by icy roads and sidewalks. Last week my youngest son paid a brief visit. We walked a lot, beached a little and ate like the locals, feasting on Cuban sandwiches, conch fritters and the ubiquitous Key Lime pie. After sampling a few pies, we [...]

Key West Vacation My winter escape to Key West continues, for which I remain grateful. While the Northeast is hunkering down for the biggest snowfall of the season, Key Westers are grumbling about Sunday’s weather forecast, which predicts a high of only 58! Key West Vacation I feel very fortunate to have escaped the tundra for a few months to land in Key West. Because Florida is very lackadaisical about masks, thanks to Gov. Key West Vacation I celebrated being fully vaccinated by scheduling a 6-week trip to Key West, where I’m luxuriating in the tropical temps, the ease of walking everywhere and feeling the sun on my face. Here are a few images from a recent walk: a sand sculpture, a lovely cemetery statue and the Margaret Truman launderette. When her father [...]

Key West Memories Sharing some photos from my recent trip to Key West. The first is from a women’s art exhibit depicting Rachel Carson, a pioneer in the environmental movement, with the new leadership under Greta Thunberg, the young climate activist. The following image is of a painting I bought by Michael Palmer, a Key West artist. [...]

Key West on My Mind As Irma heads for Florida my thoughts and prayers are for its residents, but especially for those in Key West where I lived from 2001 until 2007. I moved there desperate for a break from Syracuse’s unrelenting snowfalls and days of limited sun. I have cherished friends in Key West whom I still visit and write. They’ve [...]
